Widgets

Add tiles to a workspace or workflow stage, use their controls, and know what every tile in the catalog shows.

Needs a model open

Where: Workspaces→a workspace→Add widget

A widget is one tile on a workspace board or a workflow stage: a KPI grid, a chart, a financial statement, a data table, a note. Every tile reads the scenario the board is bound to, and explains itself when it has nothing to show.

Add a widget

  1. In a workspace, click Add widget in the left panel (or + Add widget on an empty board, or Add widget above the board in Edit widgets mode).
  2. Type in Search widgets, or browse the categories: Insight, Data, Narrative, Collaboration, Decision. Hover a tile for its full description.
  3. Click a widget. It drops onto the bottom of the board at its usual size.

The picker checks which widgets the model's data can feed. The ones it can't sit apart at the bottom under Needs data this model does not have, each with the reason ("Not available: …"), and can't be added. Before a solve, every widget is offered. If the check fails, every widget is listed and the picker says "Could not check which widgets this model's data can feed, so every widget is listed."

Insight metric, Insight chart and Insight table open Explore data first so you choose the data; Data entry opens its view setup (see Edit data). You need to be able to edit the workspace. In a workflow, the editor has its own Widget palette; see Workflows.

Explore data

Explore data in the left panel lists the data the bound scenario (or Base) actually solved: sales, costs, hours, trends. Each source shows a preview and chips for Metric, Table, Bar, Line, Area, Pie and Breakdown, with the best fit highlighted. Each chip adds a tile; the dialog stays open, marking what's added, until you click Done.

Before anything is solved it says Nothing to explore yet. RIA can also pick tiles for you: see Build a board with RIA.

Use a tile's controls

ControlWhat it does
TitleThe tile's name. On a workspace the chip beside it shows the category; on a workflow stage it shows the widget type and up to three role chips. Role chips are labels: everyone in the run sees every tile.
?What this tile shows.
Full screenEnlarges the tile over the page. Esc, Exit full screen or a click outside returns.
Widget actions (⋮)Change the view, set up the tile, or Remove it. See Change a tile. Hidden when you can only view.
✕ (Remove this widget)Removes the tile. Shown only while the board is in Edit widgets mode. See Arrange a board.
GripDrag to move the tile.
Show N more / Show fewerLong lists show the top rows first.

Tiles name the scenario they read: Scenario: {name} or Base, or for insight tiles, the scenario, period and slice together. Comparison tiles read the board's Compare set.

Click a bar on an insight chart to highlight that value on every tile that can follow it, including the maps, flow charts and KPI grid. Shift, Ctrl or ⌘-click adds or removes values. A tile that can't break down by that dimension says so, and when a slice can't apply the tile says so instead of hiding data: "No per-period detail in this solve — showing all periods."

A tile that fails to draw shows This view couldn't be displayed and Try again; the rest of the board is unaffected. A tile from a widget eode no longer offers reads This widget is no longer available: remove it and pick a replacement from Add widget.

From the Insight, Data and Narrative categories.

WidgetShows
KPI cardYour goal's value from the latest solve, and how many KPIs the model has.
KPI gridEvery KPI on the model. Click a KPI to prove the number; see KPIs. Hover a KPI and click ✕ to remove it from this tile; Add a KPI… in the tile menu puts it back.
Production breakdownProducts by volume and revenue, as bars.
Executive narrativeRIA's summary of the solve: the headline and what it means. Marked Draft from RIA · not yet reviewed.
Narrative noteA written summary RIA fills in. It has no editor of its own: ask RIA to write it.
Insight metricOne headline number from any solved data source: your goal's value, revenue, total spend.
Insight chartA bar or line chart from any solved data source: sales by product, purchases by period.
Insight tableA table from any solved data source, with Name and Value columns.
Data explorerPick a data source, a view and, for per-period data, a break-out by product or location. Keep on canvas adds the current view as its own tile, which keeps following the scenario bar.
Comparison panelYour goal's value, KPI changes and profit impact of each compared scenario against Base, and a per-period overlay. Needs scenarios in Compare.
Scenario rangePer period, the bound scenario's value with the highest and lowest across your other solved scenarios. A range, not a forecast.
Period waterfallRevenue contribution per period.
Master-data diffThe input changes between Base and the compared scenario, side by side: what was changed, added or reverted.
Change timelineThe last 10 changes to the model.
Validation checklistThe model's data rules, marked block or warn.
Opportunity valuesWhat one more unit of each limit would be worth, ranked, with The next best move.
Binding constraintsEach limit the plan is up against: how much is used, how much room is left, and what one more unit is worth.
Binding constraint heatmapResource use by period; red cells are at the limit.
Input → output lineageHow a result is made: the inputs it traces to and which limits set it. Trace a different output picks another.
Recipe explorerPick a production step to see its raw materials and capacity.
Infeasibility treeWhen a scenario can't be solved: each rule that blocked it, its category, root cause, what it affects, and a proposed fix. Read-only.
Infeasibility diagnosisThe full diagnosis of an impossible or strained plan: an Executive summary, then each pressure point with Causal chains, Root causes and Where to look.
Diagnose bannerOne line: Hard infeasibility, Feasible with soft penalty pressure, or Solved cleanly.
RCA cockpitThe Top lever, the Primary bottleneck and the periods it binds in, and what relieving it is worth.
Solve notesCaveats from the run that didn't stop the solve, such as KPI gaps.
Classification tile (What's driving the numbers)The model's sales, conversion and purchase pieces, sorted by what drives the result.

Tiles for particular kinds of model show an empty state on models that don't have that feature:

WidgetShows
Facility network mapShipments from origin to destination as arcs sized by volume.
Geographic bubble mapEach location as a bubble sized by throughput. Splits side by side when comparing two scenarios.
Network flow (Sankey)Flow from origins through hubs to customers; ribbon width is units shipped.
OD flow matrix (heatmap)Units from each hub to each customer area.
Hub → customer drilldownUnits per hub; click a hub to see the customers it serves, then back up.
Dock & fleet utilizationDials for the owned fleet and each hub, with the change against Base.
Contract decisionsEach contract Accepted or Rejected, with units, revenue, cost and Net to P&L. forced marks one you pinned.
Resource open/closeSites and lines eode chose to keep open, close or build, with capital and running costs.
Segment / channel groupsTotals per segment or channel, with cap binding / floor binding when a shared limit is hit.
Carbon dashboardTotal CO₂e against the Per-period cap, the Carbon price, and emissions By source.
Spoilage / shelf lifeUnits lost to expiry, by material and over time.
Service levelThe cost of shortages, disposals and late deliveries, by SKU.
Robustness (stochastic)The expected value of your goal over sampled scenarios, and which inputs are uncertain. "Expected value under uncertainty — not a guaranteed outcome."
Co-products (joint output)Products made together in a fixed proportion, and what happened to each.
Cost drivers (ABC)Overhead allocated by machine-hours, labor-hours or units.

Use the map controls

Both maps show Product and Period pickers when there's more than one of either, and split side by side, on one scale, when Compare holds two or more scenarios. Beside the zoom buttons, the map style switches between Grayscale (the default), Color and Satellite; above it, Bubble size (Smaller bubbles / Larger bubbles). Both are remembered per tile, and a side-by-side pair changes together. A scale bar sits at the bottom right, and a fullscreen button with the zoom buttons enlarges the whole map with its key. PNG downloads the map. A network with no coordinates offers Geocode locations.

When an insight tile is empty

An insight tile never invents numbers; it says why:

You seeDo this
No data source bound.Click Choose a data source.
Solve a scenario to populate this widget.Solve the bound scenario, or bind a solved one.
{source} isn't present in this solve. The model doesn't produce that data; pick another source.
{label} has no single headline number.Switch the tile to a bar, breakdown or table view.
This model declares no dimension to group by.Use the by-item view, or add a dimension such as a channel when you change the model.
Couldn't load this solve's detail.Click Retry. The scenario itself is fine.
Approximate: inputs read from BaseThe what-if's own inputs weren't available, so Base's were used.

Diagnosis tiles offer Refresh solve data, which re-reads the model to fill in missing detail without changing the scenario.

Read the financials

WidgetShows
Financial reportSwitch between P&L, Balance sheet and Cash flow. On the P&L, Statement / Bridge shows the statement or a profit bridge. Number scale: Whole $, $000, $M. CSV exports it. Click a subtotal's caret to fold its lines.
Income statement (P&L)The income statement alone.
Balance sheetThe balance sheet alone, with a check that assets equal liabilities plus equity.
Cash flow statementThe cash flow statement alone.
Balance sheet & cash flowBoth, with the same balance check.
Financials comparisonEach compared scenario's income statement against Base. no Δ · not current marks a scenario whose last solve doesn't match the current model.

The balance check reads "Balances — Total Assets = Total Liabilities + Equity." or "Does not balance". When a solve's statements don't agree with your goal's value, Financial report and Financials comparison say not reconciled with the difference; a report check the solve fails is named on its own line, with its amount and period. Hover either line for the detail. A scenario without statements shows No financial statements and the reason; click Collect statements when they can be gathered. The tile remembers its statement and scale.

Ask for data in plain English

The Data table, Data chart, Data metric and Data pivot tiles show the answer to a question you ask RIA. A new one says "This {kind} has no query yet."

  1. Open the tile's Widget actions (⋮) and click Compose query.
  2. Type Your question, or pick one under Try one, such as Show me weekly sales by product.
  3. Click Ask RIA (Ctrl/⌘+Enter). RIA picks the table, columns and filters and shows a sample of 8 rows and a numeric summary.
  4. If the answer is large, RIA suggests ways to narrow it; click one to refine. Then click Save query.
WidgetShows
Data tableEvery row of the answer. Click a header to sort; drag its edge to resize; Filter per column. Numeric filters take >5, >=5, <10, =5, 1..20 or 1-20. Sorting, filters and widths are kept.
Data chartBars of one number grouped by one label: the top 20.
Data metricThe sum of the first number column.
Data pivotCount and sum per label.

The tile's chip says how the query went: Ready, Check this (RIA wasn't sure it matched your question), Failed, No values or No rows. Re-run query asks again; Edit the question reopens the composer.

Edit and decide from a tile

WidgetWhat you do
Data entryEdit the model's input tables and save the edits as a what-if. Run scenario solves it with your saved edits. See Edit data.
What-if sandboxSlide a product's demand from −40% to +40% and Run scenario to add a what-if to the run.
Constraint relaxerPick a Resource, set its capacity from 50% to 150%, and Relax & resolve to add a what-if.
Sentiment dialEveryone rates Confidence in this plan from Very low to Very high; the tile shows the average.
Checklist runnerTick off the stage's checklist; each tick shows who did it.
Live commentaryA thread on the tile. Type in Add to thread… and press Enter or Send.
Narrative authorWrite the stage's summary. Draft from RIA fills in a starting summary from the model, the scenario, your goal's value and the first three KPIs.

These seven work only inside a workflow run. On a workspace they show Open inside a run to enable, and Narrative author text isn't saved there.
