Model home

See where a model stands, solve its baseline, and get from one page to everything else you can do with it.

Needs a model open

Where: Model Library→Open model

Every model has one home page, Overview in the rail. It shows whether the model is built, solved or waiting on you, plays back its build in five steps, and links to everything else you can do with it.

Click it for the checks. Solves the baseline again

Open a model's home

  • In the Model Library, click Open model on the model's row. A model that hasn't finished building opens its build steps instead; see New model.
  • With a model open, click Overview in the rail. With no model open, Overview opens the model menu with That view needs a model open; pick a model and you land on its home.
  • Press Ctrl/⌘+K and type the model's name (Command palette).
  • On Home, click a model in MY MODELS or a NEEDS YOUR REVIEW card.
  • Pick a model from the model menu in the header; see The screen at a glance.

Home, the palette and the rail always open the model home, whatever state the model is in. A warning dot on Overview in the rail means the model is waiting for your review. A deleted model, or one you lost access to, reads Model not found — it may have been deleted. Click Back to Library.

Read the header

ItemWhat it does
Model nameClick the pencil (Rename model), type, and press Enter or click away. Esc cancels. A refused rename puts the old name back and says why: Rename failed — reason.
DescriptionThe model's description, when it has one.
PERSONAL / ORGANIZATIONALWhich library the model is in. To move it, use the Library row; see Share and govern.
LockedStructural changes are blocked. Hover for the reason. You can still rename a locked model.
Validation badgeValidated, Warnings, Not passing, Stale or Not validated, with counts. Click it to open the validation drawer; see Validation. Shows once checks have run on the model.
Solve / Solve againSolves the baseline. See Solve the baseline.
Edit modelOpens the model's build steps to change it; see Change a model. Hidden for the Operator and Executive personas.
VersionsEvery saved revision, with a diff and revert; see Versions and history.
Audit logWho did what to the model, and when.

There is no menu of model actions here. Duplicate, delete, lock, promote, permissions and pin are on the model's row in the Model Library.

Solve the baseline

Owner or contributor
  1. Click Solve (Solve again once the model has a baseline).
  2. Solve for your baseline? says a first solve uses the data you loaded and a repeat replaces the current one: "The headline fills in when it lands; you can leave the page while it runs."
  3. Click Solve.

While it runs, the button is Stop solve. Stopping keeps nothing from that solve: the model goes back to built-but-not-solved, and Solve runs it again on the data as it stands. Solve is off while the model is building or solving; a refused request prints its reason under the header.

Read the status card

While a model isn't simply ready, a card under the header says what's going on and offers the next move. Design review is on Review the design; loading data, on Load your data.

Card saysButton
"RIA is building this model. You can leave this page; it updates on its own." The same card shows while it's solving. It checks again every 5 seconds.Watch the build, or Open the import steps for a model built from a workbook
"Your workbook holds several scenarios — pick which one drives the base model to continue."Pick the scenario
"Nothing is built yet. Review the Model Design and confirm or reject it to continue."Review the design
"The structure is proven on sample data. Review it, then bind your numbers."Review the design
"Your workbook didn't pass validation. Fix the flagged cells and re-upload — the checks re-run automatically."Re-upload the workbook (.xlsx only). If the new workbook changes the model's structure, you go to Review imported data.
"Built and checked, not yet solved. Solve in the header runs the baseline; the walk can still load data first."Open the walk
"You stopped the solve. Nothing from it was kept; Solve in the header runs it again on the data as it stands."Open the walk
"The last build didn't finish. Apply the suggested fix below, or open the dossier to adjust the design." plus the errorOpen the dossier, and the fix panel below

Fix a build that didn't finish

Under a failed build (and a stopped build in the wizard), Let's get this unblocked reads the error (Diagnosing…) and suggests a fix; with no fix to offer, it's titled Why these checks didn't match.

  • Apply fix & rebuild applies the suggestion, often setting aside one or two things you asked for, and rebuilds the model while you watch.
  • Edit the brief opens your brief in place so you can reword what couldn't be built, then rebuild.
  • The retry button (Try the build again, or a label the record suggests) builds again as it is.

When the fix would drop something you asked for, the panel first says This removes something you asked for., quotes your brief, and explains that rewording the brief keeps it. Things already set aside are listed as Already set aside and staying out:. After three set-asides, no one-click fix is offered; edit the brief.

Fix a headline that doesn't match the Base

eode checks the model's headline number against its Base scenario. When they disagree, a banner under the status card prints both: "This model's headline number doesn't match its Base result: the summary shows …, the Base solve says …."

Owner or contributor, model unlocked
  • Use the Base result copies the Base figure into the headline when the stored result allows it, and reports Base updated to amount. When it can't, the banner says "Solve the Base again so the two match."
  • What about my scenarios? checks, without changing anything, which what-ifs can be replayed on the current Base, which need a full re-run, and which can't because their changes no longer fit the model.
  • Replay n scenario(s) replays the ones that can be, up to 25 per click. Anything left reads "… weren't reached this run — run it again to continue."

A second banner warns when the Base's income statement doesn't add up to its result. It states the difference ("not reconciled, difference …"), the statement's net income beside the Base figure, and what the Base holds beyond the books when that explains part of the gap: "Its financial reports are shown with this difference stated; they may be wrong until it is explained or the Base is solved again." When the Base's books fail a checksum, a line of its own starts Its books fail a checksum: and names each one, by how much, in which period and report. Neither has a repair button. Solve again.

Follow the five steps

The body of the page is the model's build record in five steps. The first step that isn't done is open and outlined; the others fold to one caption line each. Click a caption to open or close it.

StepCaption showsDone whenInside
Step 1 Your inputBrief: the first 120 characters, Objective: your goal. A workbook model shows File: name.AlwaysYour brief in full, Edit, Change answers; on a workbook model, Replace the workbook. See below.
Step 2 Model DesignWhether the design was confirmedThe design isn't waiting for youThe design and Send back; see Review the design. The Your model, described files are on Build and baseline.
Step 3 Your dataYour own data: dataset, Your own data or Sample data, then the tables still to provideThe model isn't waiting for dataEach table's state, Excel template and CSV pack; see Load your data.
Step 4 Scenariosn solved · top objective amount, or no scenarios yetOne scenario is solvedThe first 6 scenarios, then Open scenarios, or Run a what-if when none is solved; see Scenarios.
Step 5 Backlognothing outstanding or n openNothing is openThe model's improvement backlog; see Change a model.

A model made by the older model builder shows a note saying so above Step 1.

A model built on sample data that you accepted while the independent review or its checks still found problems carries Ready, with what still fails above Step 1. It lists what still fails in plain words, starting with The independent review does not pass it. when the review didn't, and, when the build went through more than one review round, how many times it was reviewed and what each round changed.

Change your brief or answers

Owner or contributor
  1. Open Step 1 and click Edit.
  2. Change Describe your business and the decision, Tell us about the objective, or Maximize / Minimize.
  3. Click Save. eode reads the brief again on the same model, keeps your answers to questions that still apply, and takes you to the build steps.

Save stays off until the brief has text and something changed. Change answers, shown only when the model asked you questions, opens the same editor so you can save without changing the brief: the questions open again with your earlier answers filled in. On a model built from a workbook, Replace the workbook uploads a corrected .xlsx; the model reads it again, asks its questions again with your answers kept, and takes you to the build steps.

See how the model has changed

Once a model has two or more revisions, a line above Step 1 draws your goal's value across them, with n changes and the movement since the first build. See history opens the full timeline; see Versions and history.

Do what's suggested next

Suggested next, under Step 5, lists what's worth doing now: a title, one line of why, and one button each. The top row's button is the page's main action. Five show; the rest fold under More suggestions.

Click X on a row to dismiss it; the dismissal is saved on the model, so no one who opens it sees the row again. With nothing to do, the list reads "Nothing pending — run scenarios or explore workspaces whenever you like."

Read the headline

Headline shows Base, the baseline's value for your goal in the model's currency (— before a solve), and Scenarios solved, n of total. For a model that minimizes cost, Base reads as a positive cost.

Under it, a paragraph describes the plan in business terms. If the dollar figures in that paragraph don't match the solved result, a note follows it: "The solved result is … — figures in this description don't match the solve and may be build-time estimates."

Below sit the model's diagram (Topology) and, once a scenario is solved, its KPIs; with more than one solved, the KPI card's (currently displaying …) picker switches which scenario the tiles read (Read results). Under the KPIs, Requirements tracks what you said the model must do; see Change a model.

Open the rest of the model

The door cards lead out of the model home. At most four show.

CardOpens
CredentialsThe model's build record; see Credentials. Shows for a model built from a brief. While the model isn't ready, the preview counts its checks and review.
Model DesignReview imported data for a model imported from a workbook; "Your workbook's definition: what landed, what wasn't used, what was assumed." Shows instead of Credentials.
WorkspacesThe most recent workspace, or a new one from a preset; see Workspaces.
WorkflowsThe model's workflows; see Workflows.
Review & improveStep 5's backlog, where RIA reviews the model and its solve and proposes improvements. Before a solve it reads "Solve the base first — then RIA can review the results." Turned off while the model builds or solves. See Change a model.

See recent activity

Recent activity, the last section, lists the model's 8 most recent events as sentences: who locked or unlocked it, promoted, edited or reverted it to a revision, added or applied a what-if, granted or revoked access. Each row shows when, and the revision; a robot mark means RIA did it. Full audit log → opens the complete record. If the feed can't load, it says so and offers Try again; the rest of the page is unaffected. A model with no history yet reads "No team activity on this model yet. Edit your input in step 1, or run a scenario, to see entries land here."

Limits

  • The status card checks for changes every 5 seconds.
  • Up to 25 scenarios per Replay.
  • Step 4 lists the first 6 scenarios. Step 1's caption shows the first 120 characters of the brief.
  • Suggested next shows 5 rows before More suggestions; Recent activity shows 8 events.
  • Apply fix & rebuild sets aside at most 3 things at a time.
