KPIs and custom metrics
Choose the numbers every scenario reports: add a KPI RIA suggests, build your own from two metrics, and rename, reorder or remove them.
Where: Scenarios→KPIs→Add KPI with RIA
KPIs are the numbers every scenario of a model reports, as tiles on Scenarios and the model home. RIA picks the first ones. You can add more, build your own from what the model reports, and edit or remove any of them.
Know that KPIs belong to the model
A KPI isn't tied to the scenario you're looking at. Adding, editing, reordering or removing one changes it for every scenario, and for every workspace tile that reads it.
The first time you change a KPI on Scenarios, eode asks: KPIs belong to the model, "Adding, editing, reordering, or removing a KPI here changes it for EVERY scenario in this model — not just the one you're viewing." Click Got it — continue. It doesn't ask again in this browser.
Add a KPI RIA suggests
- Under the tiles, click Add KPI with RIA. Under RIA suggests, eode checks the solved Base (Probing the Base solve…) and lists up to 6 metrics, each with a preview of its value. Hover one for why it's worth tracking.
- Click the check ("Add this metric: backfills + verifies it across scenarios.") on the one you want.
The KPI is added at the end of the grid, filled in for every solved scenario, and checked. Nothing is solved again.
- Dismiss (X) drops a suggestion; it won't be suggested again.
- Regenerate suggestions ("None of these — dismiss the batch and propose different metrics.") drops them all and asks for different ones. When there's nothing left, dismissed ones come back.
- With nothing new: "Nothing new to suggest — every metric this model can verifiably compute is already tracked."
- Cancel adding a KPI (X) closes the suggestions.
Build a custom metric
- Under the tiles, click Add custom KPI.
- Type a name in Name it (e.g. Profit per labor hour).
- Pick Metric 1, then an operator (÷, +, −, ×) and Metric 2 (optional). The lists hold what the model reports.
- Check the preview, = value, worked out on the solved Base. It updates as you change the formula.
- Click Add metric.
A single metric is enough: it tracks that figure under your name. For a ratio, tick as % (×100) to show it as a percent. The unit is auto by default, which works it out from the metrics (dollars divided by a count stays dollars; a count divided by a count is a plain number). Pick $, % or number to override it.
On success: Added name: verified across scenarios. If the formula can't be worked out from the model's solved data, the builder says so and Add metric stays off. A name already in use is refused: "A metric named '…' is already tracked."
Edit a KPI
- Hover a tile and click the pencil (Edit name).
- In Edit metric, change the Metric name, the Metric unit ("$, %, /hr … or blank"), or the Metric caption (blank removes it). A custom metric made of two metrics also shows its two metrics and the operator (÷, +, ×).
- Click Save.
Changing a custom formula recomputes it for every solved scenario. KPIs eode computes itself have no formula to edit.
Remove a KPI
Hover a tile and click X (Remove name). Confirm Remove "name" from this model? ("Every workspace tile reading it loses the number.") with Remove. The KPI that tracks your goal can't be removed.
In a workspace's KPI grid, the X removes the KPI from that widget only; see Widgets.
Limits
- Up to 6 suggestions at a time.
- Names up to 80 characters, units up to 12, captions up to 200.
- Two names that differ only in punctuation or past the 40th character count as the same name.
- A custom metric needs a solved Base to preview.
