Data connections
See which data sources eode can read today, build a model straight from a workbook, and find the models that draw on connected data.
Where: Model Library→DATA CONNECTIONS
The DATA CONNECTIONS tab of the Model Library lists the sources eode can read and the models built from them. Today the only available source is Microsoft Excel. Every other source is listed with COMING SOON and can't be opened.
See which sources are available
Click DATA CONNECTIONS, the fourth tab of the Model Library. Its count is the number of models with connected data. The tab has two sections: Available sources and Models with connected data.
Available sources shows a card for every source, with its logo, name and description.
| On the card | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No pill | Available. Only Microsoft Excel (.xlsx workbooks). |
| COMING SOON | Not available yet. The card is dimmed and does nothing. |
| NEEDS SETUP | The source isn't set up on this deployment. |
The COMING SOON sources are Google Sheets, CSV / TSV, Power BI, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Airtable, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Salesforce, HubSpot, Strapi, Contentful, USITC HTS, WITS, EIA, FRED Freight, Frankfurter FX, GDELT and Eurostat Labour Costs. They show the same way in the Import Data window.
To use data from one of them today, export it to an Excel workbook and import that.
Build a model from a workbook
New connection opens the New data connection window: the Import Data window, ending in a model instead of a dataset.
- Click New connection.
- Click Microsoft Excel, drop your
.xlsx, and click Continue →. - Tick the tables the model should read, then click Add source. The workbook is listed under DATA IN THIS MODEL.
- Under IMPORT MODE, One-time import is selected: "Pull the data now and build the model once. No ongoing connection." Scheduled sync is turned off, with the note "A source in this model supports one-time imports only."
- Click Build model →.
The window then reads Model built from 1 source. Open model → opens the new model to continue
building it; see New model.
The build stops if any sheet you ticked had more rows than an import reads: "A model built on part of your data would be wrong without saying so, so nothing was built." Cut each sheet down to the rows the decision needs and upload it again. See Import limits.
Find models built from connected data
Models with connected data lists the models that draw on a source: "Their import template, validation rules and sync schedule." Each row shows the model name, its source and how many validation rules it has. Click a row or Open model → to open it.
A model counts here when it has a recorded source, an import template or validation rules. A model built from a written brief alone doesn't.
| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| No model is drawing on connected data yet. | No model in your library came from a connected source. |
| Could not load your models — reason | The model list failed; the source cards above are fine. Try again. |
| Could not load the source catalog — reason | The source cards failed to load. Try again. |
Refresh a model from an updated workbook
A model built from a workbook re-reads a newer copy of it instead of reconnecting. On the model's
Scenarios screen, click REFRESH FROM WORKBOOK ("Re-apply the saved data mapping
to an updated workbook") and pick the updated .xlsx.
- If the workbook has the same shape, the line beside it reads "Refresh in progress. Watch the stepper".
- If sheets or columns changed, it reads
2 structural changes detected. Opening reconciliationand takes you to review the changes.
The model home status card offers the same action as Re-upload the workbook when a workbook didn't pass validation.
